Texas is the only state in the Union with a mile marker 880 on an interstate highway. (It’s on I-10, half a mile west of the Sabine River.) And in all that expanse, many of my top Texas memories are ballparks: the Astrodome in Houston, the first domed stadium ever built; The Ballpark in Arlington, the 1994 home of the Texas Rangers; Cohen Stadium, a beautiful minor-league park in El Paso. Another memory would be the Cadillac Ranch, a few miles west of Amarillo on Route 66. And yes, I remember The Alamo, too.
