Ten-year-old Joe Reid of Lions becomes the first player in league history (that we know of) to play all nine fielding positions in a single game. He takes the mound in the sixth inning of a 10-Jun game against Naborhood and allows the tying runs to score, but he singles and scores in the top of the seventh, and he earns the victory as Lions wins, 19-17.
Rutherford hosts the state finals during the first week of August. Jan Mazur of Toms River belts three home runs in their opener against Sparta, but the survivor is Nottingham, which follows a Williamsport appearance in 1992 with its second straight state title. Kenilworth rounds out the state final field.
The Rutherford National 10-year-olds rally to win the district championship at Wallington, defeating Rutherford American in the title game as three hurlers combine for a no-hitter.
