The Jaycees end their sponsorship of a National League team after 11 seasons, the first original sponsor to leave the roster. Their replacement is Jones Electric.
Masaaki Kanda, whose father was transferred from Tokyo to New York for a year, pitches the Leagues first 18-strikeout game. Kanda does it for Flash, which wins its first of many league championships. Kanda would make his mark in Japanese politics, as governor of one of the nations prefectures.
