My first visit to the Cornhusker State consisted of crossing over from Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Omaha, home of Rosenblatt Stadium and the College World Series (and, of course, Mutual of Omaha). From there, I headed south toward Kansas, stopping off in Brownville to see the river dredge Capt. Meriwether Lewis. I finally got back in 1998, and checked out the new Strategic Air Command Museum off Interstate 80 near Ashland, as well as the Homesteaders National Monument near Beatrice. Then in 2007, I went back in October and discovered the Sandhills region in all its glory.
