Cy Young Memorial

The Cy Young Memorial, next to an athletic field in Newcomerstown.

Quick Facts:
This is a very simple memorial established to the memory of the winningest pitcher in the history of Major League Baseball.

Between 1894 and 1911, Denton True “Cy” Young made over 800 appearances in a major league uniform. The hurler was credited with a record 511 victories, as well as a record 313 defeats. In his honor, Major League Baseball established the Cy Young Award in 1957, to be given to the top pitcher in baseball (later, to the top pitcher in each league).

Meanwhile, Young’s hometown of Newcomerstown, Ohio, erected this monument to his memory. It is fittingly located next to an amateur ball field.
