Lamar University, a member of the Texas state university system, opened this field in 1969 to serve its baseball program. For four years in the 1980s, the Cardinals shared the field with a Texas League team. The ballpark saw one additional season of professional use for the independent Texas-Louisiana League in the 1990s. The field also saw use in the Junior Olympics in the early 1990s.
By the end of the 20th century, the ballpark had taken on most of its current look, with artificial turf, chairback seating in the reserved section behind the plate as well as the 20-foot batters eye in center field.
Al Vincent, a former Texas League player, spent 16 years as a special assistant to the Lamar coaching staff. Bryan Beck was a member of the schools board of regents.
I was not able to get into Vincent-Beck Stadium on my 2020 visit.
