Hyde Stadium

Walking into Hyde Stadium, Jul-2021.

The main all-concrete covered grandstand dates to 1935.

Late game action.

Quick Facts:
Hyde Stadium was built in 1935 using funds from the Emergency Relief Administration, a New Deal program that predated the better-known Works Progress Administration. The city of Pierre and the Hyde family also kicked in funds for its construction.

The park became a professional facility in 1953 with the emergence of the Basin League, an independent league that in those days was referred to as an “outlaw” league. The league continued after 1959 but evolved into a college summer league, lasting until 1973, with the Pierre Cowboys part of the league the whole time.

Through the years, the facility has also been home to Pierre Post 8 American Legion Baseball. Post 8 and the city teamed up to renovate the park in 2016; it now features modern seating flanking the original covered concrete grandstand as well as a modern concession and press box facility. That made it appropriate for a return to college summer ball with the Expedition League.
