Mirmow Field

Looking up one of the entry portals toward the field.

Quick Facts:
Mirmow Field was built in 1948 on the site of a previous local ball field, Hawthorne Field, and named for Edward Mirmow, then the director of athletic programs for Orangeburg’s American Legion post. Post 4 won the state Legion title four times, most recently in 1979, and that success helped get Orangeburg and its ballpark on the national map. As a result, Mirmow Field once played host to the American Legion World Series.

In addition to two seasons of the low-A Western Carolinas League (now the South Atlantic League), Mirmow also played host to several scenes in the movie “Major League III” (1997). It continues to be the home of Legion ball in Orangeburg as well as other amateur action.

Outfielders need to be aware of the cement block outfield wall, painted green and only covered by the occasional advertising sign.

I was not able to get into Mirmow Field on my 2018 visit.
