John E. McCarthy Stadium is located in Riverpoint Park, where the north and south branches of the Pawtuxet River merge. The park also includes other athletic fields; center field here is only 366 feet as this field abuts a Babe Ruth Baseball field.
Nonetheless, in 1996 the Northeast League came to West Warwick and placed a team here. The team straggled to the finish line with a record of 19-61, and it promptly vanished.
The field continues to be used by amateur players, though. In 2004, the summer wood-bat New England Collegiate Baseball League had a team here. And each season, the college programs in Rhode Island get together for a fall tournament at this ground.
