Five Firemen’s Field

The bridge across the creek leading to Five Firemen’s Field, Jul-2018.

The “A” frame building serves as equipment storage, concession stand, and press box.

Quick Facts:
The facility that is used by the Ridgefield Baseball and Athletic Organization’s Little League program is dedicated to the memory of five firefighters – Chief Gus Genschow and company members Dom Acquafredda, Harry Brown, Jim Edwards, and Jim Lauria – who answered their last alarm 15-Oct-1967 at a bowling alley in neighboring Cliffside Park.

The field, in Veterans Memorial Park, is sunken several feet from the surrounding land, which is adjacent to Wolf Creek, which rises a block north of the park. Sets of metal bleachers are situated behind the dugouts, and fans can also observe the game from the outfield at street level. There is a decent amount of foul territory here except behind the plate, but pitches that hit the backstop can take strange hops. The field dimensions are a few feet short of Little League average, and a six-foot fence surrounds the playing area.
