Lyndhurst Rec Center

Looking in at the main field at Lyndhurst Recreation Center from beyond the first-base bullpen, Apr-2010.

Beyond left field is an indoor recreation building (the white building in the left of the photo).

The view from behind home plate just after sunset. Everything is artificial turf except the plate and the mound.

Quick Facts:
The Township of Lyndhurst received funding to develop a new recreation complex in 2005, when fields they had developed further east in the Hackensack Meadowlands were taken over for a new golf and housing development for which ground was broken but which was never completed.

This complex, located at the base of the Valley Brook Avenue hill between the road and the Lackawanna Main Line, includes three large artificial turf fields. All can be used for soccer, but only one, the farthest east, is specifically dedicated to that sport. The others can be used for baseball and softball. The middle field plays to standard dimensions and has a clay pitcher’s mound and home plate area, while the westernmost field is laid out to softball or youth baseball dimensions.

Lyndhurst High School, which had played their home games at Matera Field at Marin Oval for a quarter-century, relocated to the new recreation complex in 2009. Felician College (now University), which played several seasons at Breslin Stadium across town, followed the Golden Bears to the new field in 2010.
