Delta State University began playing at this field in 1965, and for many years their head coach was former Boston Red Sox pitcher Dave Boo Ferriss. Upon his retirement after the 1988 season, the field was rededicated in his honor.
The Statesmen, champions of NCAA Division II in 2004, are generally the only team to utilize this fine facility. However, on Tuesday 30-May-2000, the Greenville Bluesmen of the independent Texas-Louisiana League came here to play a doubleheader against the Jackson DiamondKats. I have not yet figured out why Legion Field in Greenville was unavailable that evening. What matters, though, is that it was not, giving Ferriss Field one night to shine as a professional park.
