Simmons Field is named for “Hi” Simmons, the long-time baseball coach at the University of Missouri. As far as anyone knew the day I attended a game there, the Tigers have used the field since at least the 1950s, if not earlier. The current stadium was the result of a donation by the Taylor family in the mid-1990s.

The ballpark is adjacent to the Walton Soccer Stadium and across the street from the football stadium and basketball arena. Ballpark access is off Providence Drive, with the entrance just south of Stadium Boulevard.

The park features an all-aluminum seating bowl with a brickface exterior. The lights are perhaps too low, as fielders seem to have an awful lot of trouble seeing fly balls in the early evening, just as the sun is going down. The Tigers play most of their games in the afternoon; I attended a game of the Mid-Missouri Mavericks, a pro team that shared the facility for three seasons.
