Mahaney Diamond is located on the north end of the University of Maine campus, part of a sports complex that includes a hockey arena, football stadium, and fieldhouse.

Like many college ball fields, simplicity is the norm here. Aside from sections of stadium seats erected above the dugouts, the majority of the seating here is in bleachers. When the Lumberjacks arrived here from Glens Falls, they built a new concession stand and restroom facility, but otherwise the field is pretty much to the Black Bears’ liking.

In 2003, a Lumberjacks staffer told me that negotiations were under way with Husson College, ten miles to the southwest in the city of Bangor, to build a new stadium there that will become the home of the Lumberjacks. At that time, it appeared that the new facility would be ready for 2005, but it actually opened for the 2004 season.
