The field fell into relative disuse after 1955, and come the 1980s, the city saw fit to build a new police and fire station along Browder Street, beyond right field. The picket fence that formed the right-field wall was moved in by about a hundred feet; it was also built higher than before, but this still left an especially inviting home-run target. This became an issue when a new college summer league team, using the Railroaders name that had been used for pro ball around 1950, started playing here. An unusual ground rule was established: the netting, which rises about 20 feet above the top of the picket fence, is in play, and a ball must clear the net in order to count for a home run. The distance to right and even right-center is so short that balls off the net are often singles and 9-3 putouts are not unusual.
The wooden grandstand itself is covered by an aluminum roof, with ceiling fans incorporated. There are 92 stadium seats that are mostly reserved for season ticket holders, with room for another 300 spectators on wooden benches higher up in the grandstand. There is also a left-field patio area. The field itself has grass basepaths, which is not uncommon for this part of the world.
One unusual feature is a train horn mounted on a pole past right field. The horn sounds when a home team player knocks one out of the yard.
The electric scoreboard in left center is simple; it has the score by innings but no hit or error totals. Fortunately, the public address announcer generally does a good job recapping each inning (runs, hits, errors, left on base).
