Among other features, the park includes a covered batting cage area for the players, an unusual feature at this level. The concourse is covered by the luxury and press box area, allowing for shelter during rainstorms such as the one I experienced the first time I visited, in August 2005. I got back and saw a game in 2006 and took these new photos.
The sponsorship by CommunityAmerica Credit Union expired after the 2016 season. The playing field (but not the stadium) acquired a naming sponsor, as Pro Athlete, Inc., a Kansas City-based sporting goods company, bought partial naming rights and now has one of its brand names advertised.
After a 2020 season during which the team sat idle as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the club undertook a rebrand for 2021. In partnership with the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in nearby Kansas City, Mo., the franchise will now be known as the Kansas City Monarchs, utilizing the name of one of the prominent Negro Leagues teams of the first half of the 20th century. With prior field sponsorships having expired, the ballpark is now known as Legends Field in accordance with the theme.
