Standard Field

Walking up to Standard Field, Nov-2020.

This backstop appears to be all that is left to indicate use of the field for baseball.

A lonely, leaning foul pole down the right field line.

Quick Facts:
For two decades, this site was the home to a Georgia-Florida League team, under several affiliations. In one of those seasons, 1954, the club split time between Standard Field and the handsome ballpark in Americus, thirty miles to the west.

I do not know when the stadium structure was torn out, but today all that is left is this multi-purpose field that may see more action for youth soccer than for baseball or softball. On my visit in late 2020, the basepaths were not even cut out; a traffic cone appeared to mark the location of home plate.
