The covered grandstand is something of a throwback.

This park doesn’t fit into the typical mold of parks that were built around 1995.

The stadium replaced an older facility on the same site, and while all the concessions are on the exterior of the seating bowl, the bowl itself is designed with an overhanging roof that covers all the reserved and general admission seating (the lower boxes are exposed to the elements). Boxes are stadium seats; reserved seats are bucket seats; general admission seats are benches. There’s also some decorative iron work around the perimeter (behind the back row of seats) that makes the park stand out. The seating bowl template is virtually identical to that used at McKechnie Field in Bradenton, Fla.

The homestanding Greenjackets have one of the best team names in the minors today. The park is less than two miles from Augusta National Golf Club.

After the 2017 season, the Greenjackets fled for greener pastures across the Savannah River. SRP Park in North Augusta, S.C., is just across the 13th Street bridge, 1¾ miles from Lake Olmstead Stadium as the crow flies. While the venue will no longer be used for baseball, its proximity to the golf course makes it ideal as a concert and event venue, with year-round use but a focus on events during the week of the Masters golf tournament.
