Moore-Kittles Field

This banner greets visitors to Moore-Kittles Field, Mar-2022.

The modest spectator facilities.

Quick Facts:
This modest facility plays host to the baseball program at Florida A&M University, one of the largest (by enrollment) historically black colleges and universities in the nation.

The field is named for two former FAMU coaches, Oscar A. Moore and Costa (Pop) Kittles, both members of the school's athletic hall of fame. Prior to the field being placed here in 1983, the school played its baseball games several blocks north on Wahnish Way, on a site now occupied by a teaching gymnasium.

There are very few bells and whistles here. While the Rattlers have a batting cage and pitching warmup facility behind their dugout (on the third base side), there is no concession stand. Restrooms are located below a modest press box. Simple bleachers can hold up to five hundred fans.

The field itself is an all-natural surface. There was talk of putting artificial turf in, but that had not come to pass as of my 2022 visit. The outfield features some rolling hills, in much the same way as its host city. Tallahassee is easily the hilliest city in the state of Florida.

Despite the modest facilities, Florida A&M has consistently turned out professional players over the years, including the likes of Vince Coleman and Hal McRae.
