McKethan Stadium, named after citrus grower, miner, banker, road planner, and university graduate Alfred A. McKethan, was built in 1988 on the site of Perry Field, the home of Gator baseball since the 1920s. The family of former Gator football lineman Tootie Perry donated the land adjacent to the football field to the university with the stipulation that the baseball field be named for their son. McKethan, whose family also has a lake named for him near Brooksville, made several gifts to the school to finance the stadium construction and press box reconstruction.
The field, which is quite attractive except for its notable lack of shade, faces southeast, which is slightly unusual but not totally uncommon. The stadium, with its high seating capacity and history of good crowds, has hosted several NCAA regional and Super Regional brackets in its three decades.
Following the 2020 season, the Gators moved a short distance to the new Florida Ballpark, in the vicinity of the schools softball stadium, which more resembles a minor league ballpark in terms of amenities and also offers a bit of shade for spectators.
