Fort Lauderdale Stadium opened in 1962 as the spring training home of the New York Yankees, who stayed until their new complex opened in Tampa. The Baltimore Orioles took their place the next season and remained for 14 years until picking up and moving back to Sarasota.
I was unable to get into Fort Lauderdale Stadium during my August 2003 road trip. It is now too late, as the facility was torn down in the summer of 2019. The site is part of the footprint of the stadium for Fort Lauderdale CF, the reserve side for professional soccer club Inter Miami CF; Lockhart Stadium, the adjacent football field that was the home of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers through 2016, was also demolished.
