Albert Park

Quick Facts:
Albert Park has been around since 1951; the land has been used as a city park since 1937. Legend has it that after the stadium was built, New York Yankees infielder Billy Martin, a Berkeley native, would bring a group of semi-pro players from his area over to San Rafael for pickup games.

Despite the somewhat impressive structure, this remained a community ball field until 2012, when the Pacifics, an independent team, was formed and joined the North American League, a successor to Golden League Baseball. That league folded after the 2012 season, but the Pacifics encouraged the formation of the Pacific Association, which uniquely had a couple of teams in Hawaii during its first season. With that league on shaky ground, the Pacifics agreed to join the Pecos League, which had begun a California division a couple seasons earlier with teams from Bakersfield to Monterey. A Pecos League team in Martinez was established at the same time; both began league play in 2021 after restrictions following the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 were lifted. Clubs in Dublin and Vallejo joined for 2023; Vallejo had spent six years as a rival of the Pacifics in the Pacific Association.\

I was unable to get into Albert Park on my 2023 visit.
