RUTHERFORD AVE
Rutherford Avenue begins at Riverside Avenue, where a bridge once crossed the Passaic River prior to the completion of NJ 3. The farm and estate of Sen. John Rutherfurd straddled what is now Rutherford Avenue, lending its name to a real estate development known as Rutherfurd Park in what would eventually become Rutherford. The road forms the boundary between Rutherford and the Township of Lyndhurst, the remaining section of the Township of Union from which the borough split in 1881.
From Riverside Avenue to Ridge Road, Rutherford Avenue is Bergen County highway 30 (formerly S30). At Ridge Road, NJ 17, which runs on Ridge Road in Lyndhurst, joins Rutherford Avenue, which is vacated beyond an intersection with Polito Avenue in Lyndhurst. At that point, NJ 17 loops into Lyndhurst for the interchange with NJ 3.
This pictorial runs from west to east. Only intersections with Rutherford streets are shown.
