Faced with the same declining enrollment issues as other baseball programs, the League consolidates its Major program by cutting back to ten teams, five in each league. The team sponsored by the Rutherford Elks Lodge is one of the teams from which talent was dispersed among the other teams, but the Elks sponsorship, active since 1952, is transferred to the team previously known as Flash Cleaners and then Cedolas Friendly Service. The A.W. Van Winkle team is also phased out.
The Rutherford High School baseball team conducts a Little League clinic for the third straight season. Ten former Rutherford Little Leaguers who are now Bulldogs work with over two dozen current players in what has become an entertaining and educational annual tradition.
Tom Mellody Field sees plenty of tournament action in July 2010, as it hosts the District 5 championship rounds for three age levels (12s, 11s, and 10s) as well as the 10-year-old state finals, won by Ramsey in northern Bergen County. The total of 26 games was, at the time, the most tournament action Rutherford Little League has hosted in one season. The League went on to host 30 tournament games in 2017.
