Concurrently with the millennium, the Rutherford Little League marks its first half-century of service to Borough youth with a year-long celebration. The League schedules a gala dinner-dance for 8-Apr, and opens its 50th season a week later.
The Minor and Tee Ball program is re-structured for the 2000 season. The Minor League is split into two levels: Triple-A, for players aged 9 through 12, and Double-A, for players aged 7 and 8. The Tee Ball program is opened to players aged 5 and 6. Previously, there was a single Minor League for ages 8 through 12; Tee Ball admitted players of ages 6 and 7.
For the first time, two Rutherford teams from the same league capture the District 5 championships in the same season. The 12-year-old team, managed by Jeff Cassella, wins the title 19-Jul; the 10-year-old team, managed by Steve Smith, earns its crown a week later.
