I had a fairly early introduction to Connecticut when I went on a family trip to Mystic Seaport. I returned there in 1989, and I still liked the place. I’ve also enjoyed the Mark Twain House in Hartford, as well as the American Clock and Watch Museum in Bristol. Bristol is also the home of Little League Baseball’s Eastern Region headquarters and tournament, and its A. Bartlett Giamatti Leadership Training Center. Speaking of Giamatti, he was once president of Yale, that Ivy League school down in New Haven.
Note: Connecticut counties no longer have any administrative function. The historic counties were retained for purposes of census division through the 2020 census. The county seats listed are the historic county seats. In 2022, the Census Bureau agreed to a change requested by the state, to tabulate county-level population in terms of nine planning regions (with non-prosaic names like “Lower Connecticut River Valley”) rather than the eight historic counties. I have visited all 169 towns of Connecticut, so I have been in each of the planning regions as well as each of the historic counties.
