St. Mary Roman Catholic Church

The Roman Catholic parish of St. Mary of the Rosary was established in 1909 as part of the Archdiocese of Newark. A new building was constructed in the mid-1950s as a temporary structure to accommodate a rapidly growing parish. The original plan was to convert the building to a gymnasium and build a new church two blocks away, but that plan was abandoned in the 1970s and the parish still meets in this boxy building. The old church was neglected and was torn down in the early 1990s to make way for additional parking. Further renovations early in the decade of the 2010s reoriented the sanctuary and replaced the main entrance, which is now off the parking lot.
