Elks, the American League champs who finished the regular season with a 15-1 mark, won the opening playoff game on the strength of a three-hitter by Guy Indyk and some key hits by Indyk, Jim Harrison and Dave Chun.
Indyk, who struck out 14 batters, aided his own cause with a home run. Harrison had three hits and Chun two as each drove in three runs for Coach Bill Indyks squad.
Kiwanis hurler Dave Brooks held the hard-hitting Elks squad to seven hits and accounted for one of his teams three safeties. Joe Hill and Jim Papenberg got the others.
