Pasquin Motors won the borough championship in the Rutherford Little League on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Field, by defeating the Kiwanis team in a nip and tuck battle which went seven innings before Pasquin came up with a run to win 4-3.
Richie Allen was the winning pitcher, and helped his team by smashing out a home run. Richie relieved Glen Desimone, who had relieved starting pitcher Mike Latorraca. Mike went three and a third innings, and Glen one and two-thirds. Richie finished out the sixth and seventh frames.
The day was perfect for baseball, with a shirtsleeve audience watching. It was decided rather late in the week to play the game while there was such fine weather.
Pasquin represented the American division of the Little League, with Kiwanis representing the National division.
Dennis Russo was the starting pitcher for Kiwanis and went six innings, the limit allowed by Little League rules. Fred Dowd hurled the extra inning and was touched for the run which won the game.
