Greg Ehrhardt was on the mound for Rotary, while Brian Conway toed the slab for Pasquin. Pasquin scored first in the bottom of the second when Conway doubled to centerfield, was sacrificed to third by Don Coomber and scored on an Ehrhardt wild pitch. In the top of the fourth Brian Conway, obviously tiring, let Gary Vanderels single, his second hit, then walked Willie Flohr, Bob Nead and Denny Bott in succession to force over the tieing run. Then manager Ted Allen derricked him for Richie Allen. Willie Flohr struck out to start the sixth but Bob Nead got his second walk. Denny Bott was safe on an error. Greg Ehrhardt hit a shot to shortstop Doug Watt, who bobbled it but threw out Nead trying to score, both runners moving up to second and third. Jimmy Fugit hit one down to second but the short-stops throw to first was late and both runners scored. This ended the scoring and the game. Greg Ehrhardt the winner, struck out nine and walked two, while Brian Conway struck out eight and walked six, while Richie struck out five and walked but two.
This is the third year in the last four that Rotary has taken the pennant and the borough series. In 1955 Rotary beat the Legion two straight, in 1957 they beat Pasquin 2 straight and again in 1958 in this sudden death game. It is worth noting that in 1956 Rotary was a poor last but manager Hank Bott molded himself two pennant winners after taking over the last place team. Ted Allen, Pasquin mentor, has only had his club two years but brought in two winners. Hats off to both managers and to both teams.
