The National Little League dumped the American circuit in both ends of the Independence Day double-header played at Rutherford Field before more than 200 fans.

Harold Schewiser, Billy Muench and Frank Pollara, backed by tight fielding, combined to pitch the National League All-Stars to an 8-3 victory over the American League in the afterpiece. Loose fielding on the part of the American Leaguers nullified a three-hit pitching job turned in by John Vanderveer and Bob Dziadosz.

The American All-Stars got off fast to score three runs in the top of the first on singles by Marty Lefkowitz and Richie Fitzgerald and Tom Vanderveer’s home run, but a pair of errors and hits by Billy Hands and Pollara and a couple of fielder’s choices gave the Nationals four runs in their half of the frame.

They added four more in the second on three misplays, a hit batsman, a walk, a fielder’s choice and Pollara’s second successive hit and fifth safety of the day to complete the scoring.

Schweiser took the win and John Vanderveer the loss.
