(11- 6) JAYCEES 0 2 0 0 0 0 -- 2 1 2 (12- 6) ROTARY 1 0 1 0 1 x -- 3 6 1 W - Pollara (6-0) L - Butcher (2-4)
The Rotary moved a half game ahead of the JCC nine Thursday as they parlayed two Chamber errors and won a tight first-place contest 3-2.
Rotary scored their only earned run of the evening in the first inning when Joe Gusera walked and scampered home on Bill Hands double.
The Junior Chamber took the lead with two runs in the second when Ned Lygas tripled, Buddy Miller walked, and both came home when a ground ball by Frank Friedman was booted.
The Rotary tied the score in the third when Hands was safe on an error, Frank Pollara was intentionally passed, and Billy Tantum singled.
The Rotary threatened to take the lead in the fourth when Roger Miller came through with his second single and Joe Gusera doubled. But Friedmans major league catch in right field got pitcher Richie Butcher out of that jam.
The Rotary threat was realized in the fifth though, when they won the game on an unearned run by Frank Pollara. Pollara was intentionally walked, stole second, and appeared to be headed safely home when Don Dionisio singled to left.
But a line throw by Harold Schweizer had Pollara caught by eight feet when the catcher dropped the ball and Pollara came home with the game and league winning run.
Pollara struck out twelve in the four innings he pitched.
