By virtue of a tight 4-3 conquest of the Legion Thursday, the Elks moved into first place in the American loop of the Rutherford Little League.

The Legion-Elks affair was a dogfight all the way.

The then league leading Legion hopped off to a two run lead in the top of the first on hits by Gasalberti, D’Ziadosz, and Kievet – but the Elks came right back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning when Lefkowitz, on via an error, came home on J. Vanderveer’s single.

The Elks put together a three run game winning rally in the bottom of the third. Lefkowitz was again the man to start things moving, this time with a single, which was followed by a free pass to T. Vanderveer.

J. Vanderveer and Carorillani followed with one base blows to bring home three runners.

The Legion came back in the fifth with three hits, by D’Ziadosz, Kievet, and Biller, and a free pass to Hanson – but they were only able to squeeze one tally from the outburst, and were held scoreless in the sixth to lose the game and first place.
