The bats of Duke Matawa, Rich Fitzgerald and Tom Vanderveer featured Monday’s 8-8 extra inning standoff between the Elks and Pasquin’s at High School Field.

The game was a seesaw affair which kept spectators on their toes. Pasquin’s went ahead 2-1 in the third and 4-1 in the fourth.

The Elks made 4-3 with two in the top of the fifth, only to have Pasquin’s score three in their half of the inning. Undiscouraged, the Elks fought back with four in the sixth to tie the game away, then went ahead with a score in the top of the extra inning. Pasquin’s came right back with the tying run in the bottom of the inning.

Matawa, with four for four, Fitzgerald, with three for three, and Garry Brinker, with two for two, accounted for all but one of Pasquin’s hits. Tom Vanderveer had three bingles for the Elks, while John Vanderveer, Jimmy Coravillana and Marty Lefkowitz weighed in with two apiece. One of Lefkowitz’ hits was a triple.
