( 7- 3) KIWANIS 0 0 0 0 0 0 -- 0 1 3 ( 6- 2) ROTARY 1 0 0 0 1 x -- 2 3 1 W - Van Biert (4-2) L - Usher (3-2)
The Rotary and Kiwanis nines carried the Little loop playoff race right down to the wire Tuesday night as Rotary, behind the one hit mound performance of big Gene Van Biert, past Kiwanis 2-0 to force the fight for a berth in the Bergen-Passaic tourney right down to the last day.
The Rotary scored their first and, as it turned out, winning tally, in the bottom of the first frame, when, with Floyd on second via a bunt single and a passed ball, Van Biert singled sharply to left, and Floyd came home whtn the ball was fumbled in the outfield.
The Rotary added an insurance tally in the fifth. Alyea walked, stole second, and came home when Van Biert was on via the first basemans error.
Kiwanis threatened in the fifth when they stranded three base runners, as Van Biert fanned Lefkowitz with the bases loaded.
The game was a tight one throughout, as Kiwanis hurler Usher limited the victorious Rotary to only three bingles.
Van Biert was permitted to pitch for the Rotary, his second performance in as many days by special agreement of the rival managers Dave Chadwick and Aaron Lefkowitz.
