( 1- 7) JAYCEES 0 0 0 0 0 0 -- 0 2 2 ( 5- 2) ROTARY 0 0 0 0 0 1 -- 1 4 1 W - Van Biert (3-2) L - Fiscella (1-3)
Gene Van Biert doubled home Rye Alyea in the bottom of the last inning Monday with the only run of the ball game as the Rotary squeaked by the Junior Chamber 1-0, to keep alive their loop title hopes.
There was no one out in the final frame when Alyea lined a single to right and Van Biert, the leagues leading batter, clubbed his second hit of the day, a long double to left, to bring Alyea home with the winner.
The game was tight all the way as Van Biert, on the mound for Rotary, limited the Jaycees to but a pair of singles, while Junior Chamber twirler Dan Fiscella gave up but four.
Stealing was allowed for the first time in Mondays contest to prepare the boys for the Lyndhurst tournament today, and there was a total of three sacks pilfered, while two runners advanced on passed balls. None of the thefts figured in the scoring, however.
