( 5- 2) KIWANIS 1 0 3 0 0 0 -- 4 5 1 ( 1- 4) JAYCEES 0 0 0 2 0 0 -- 2 7 1 W - Ross (1-0) L - Roedema (0-3)
Tuesday, the Kiwanis nine weathered two desperate last minute Junior Chamber surges to come out on top of a 4-2 game.
Kiwanis scored a single tally in the first, when third baseman Harry Usher singled home leadoff man Bob DZiadosz who was on with a sharp single of his own, and had moved to second when Lefkowitz walked.
Three more Kiwanis tallies came across in the third, when, with two outs, three singles and a base on balls combined to pace the game winning rally.
The Junior Chamber answered with a pair in the fourth. Fiscella and Roedema singled, and Fiscella came home on an error by center fielder Wisloff, which brought Roedema to third. He scored on Butterworths fielders choice.
In the sixth and final frame, with the Junior Chamber trailing by two runs, Butterworth and Schwizer lined consecutive singles to right field, but died on base when Kiwanis hurler Bob Ross rallied to whiff Vanderveer and Gusera.
Hitting was noticeably improved in Tuesdays contest, as the Kiwanis accounted for five bingles, and the Junior Chamber was credited with seven. Harry Usher, at third for the Kiwanis, was big-man with the willow as he went two-for-three.
In going the route for the Kiwanis win, Ross was touched for seven hits, but whiffed seven and only walked one. Roedema and Fiscella, who shared the mound chores for the JCC, gave up only five safeties, struck out eight, and were worked for four free passes.
Fielding was tighter than its been all year, as the game went errorless until the fourth and then each club was only charged with one boot.
The loss dropped the Junior Chamber into a last place tie with Pastore, both clubs being three games off the pace.
