The Junior Chamber Little League nine fought off a last ditch Pastore rally last night to edge the Pastore club 3-2 and force the local loop into a pair of ties. The Rotary and Kiwanis teams are now deadlocked for the top spot while the Junior Chamber, by virtue of last nights victory, their first of the seaosn, gained a last place tie with Pastore.
Both teams trail the twin leaders by two games.
Yesterdays contest was a loosely played one, as nine errors were registered, and both teams together could account for only seven hits.
Dan Fiscella went the distance for the Junior Chamber to gain the victory, and was touched for three safeties, walked two, and whiffed fifteen, while Mel Lewis, who was charged with the loss for Pastore gave up four bingles and a pair of walks. He struck out eight Junior Chamber batters.
The Junior Chamber scored two runs on a pair of hits in the first inning.
Dan Gasalberti led off with a single past second base and moved up when Dan Sullivan was on via an error at second. After the next batter struck out, Butterworth lined a triple over second base to bring the runners home.
The Chamber came up with another tally in the fourth, when Bill Muench walked with two out, took third on a two base error at second, and scored when Dan Sullivan dropped a single in front of the pitchers mound.
Pastore came back with a pair in the fifth when Conroy walked, Tanton was on on Fiscellas error, and Bull loaded the bases when he reached first via a fielders choice.
Fitzgerald singled behind second and Lewis was on via Vanderveers error to bring the two runners home. Hurler Fiscella came through, though, to whiff Wunner and end the threat.
Pastores Dick Fitzgerald had a pair of hits in three official at-bats to cop leading stick honors. Butterworths triple was the only extra base blow of the game.
