( 0- 2) JAYCEES 0 0 0 0 0 0 -- 0 4 2 ( 1- 1) ROTARY 1 0 0 0 0 x -- 1 3 1 W - Hands (1-0) L - Roedema (0-1)
Three Rotary singles and two Junior Chamber errors in the bottom of the first were enough to let the Rotary capture a 1-0 squeaker in Little League play Friday evening.
Bill Hands, who went the route for Rotary to gain credit for the win, gave up only four hits, but even that performance was bested by Junior Chamber moundsman Charley Roedema, who was touched for but three singles.
All three came in the first frame, though, off the bats of John Floyd, Al Nelson, who scored the winning marker, and Joe McGlynn. Errors on Luke and Hands kept the rally going.
Hands gave up two bingles in the second, but was never seriously in trouble throughout the contest as he walked none, had only one misplay made behind him, and never let a runner past second.
Dan Sullivan, catcher for the losers, was the only ball player to hit safely more than once, banging out a pair of singles after leading off the first inning with a strike-out.
Rotary threatened to increase their lead in the fifth, when Roedemas control weakened and he issued two free passes, but he forced center fielder Brian Sherry to pop up to second and end the threat.
