The 1958 season features no fewer than eleven no-hitters, including three by Brian Conway and two by Richie Allen, both on Pasquin. But the pitching highlight of the year comes on 30-May, Memorial Day, when Joe Rybka of Flash throws the leagues second perfect game, downing Lions, 6-0. Rybka went on to become a Bergen County police officer, and he was living in Wood-Ridge when he was killed 7-Jan-1979, gunned down with his own revolver the day before by an inmate at Bergen Pines County Hospital.
Rutherford Little League hosts its first tournament game since 1953 when Rutherford American takes on Lodi Thursday 24-Jul. The home team comes up just short, dropping a 1-0 decision in its lone contest.
