State Highways of New Jersey
NJ 143 is a piece of Spring Garden Road in Winslow Township that was taken over by the state, presumably for providing state-maintained access to state institutions along the road. There is also a Motor Vehicles inspection station on the highway.
The highway got its number because it is historically a spur off the White Horse Pike, which used to be NJ 43 but is today designated only as US 30. State maintenance continues just north of the White Horse Pike, as the highway was rerouted in order to install a signal at US 30 and improve traffic flow at the intersection, which is near a railroad overpass on the main highway.
