For years, an express route has been discussed that would funnel traffic from NJ 33 east of Hightstown directly into Princeton, a route primarily served by SR 571. NJ 64 is an overpass that was built along SR 571 for just that purpose, but the rest of this route was never built – except for NJ 133, the Hightstown Bypass. This road funnels traffic around the borough of Hightstown, which is notorious for traffic jams, but it runs for less than four miles and leaves traffic between Hightstown and Princeton to deal with SR 571 as it always has.
