There is some uncertainty as to whether the block of Summit Avenue between Grand Avenue and Chestnut Ridge Road is county-maintained. On the NJDOT straight-line diagram of CR 96, the road is inventoried as using Grand Avenue and then multiplexed with CR 73 on Chestnut Ridge Road to Summit Avenue. However, other maps do show the block of Summit Avenue in question as county-maintained.
The portion of the road from Crescent Avenue to Chestnut Ridge Road is signed as part of primary route 2.
