Quick Facts:
This ballpark was built as a WPA project in 1938 and saw its first professional action in 1946. For the better part of three decades, teams called the Gems called it home. Quincy acquired the nickname “Gem City” during the late 19th century, as a river port largely protected by bluffs.

Most folks still refer to it as “Q Stadium”, but Quincy University (then Quincy College) bought the park from the city in 1984 and put its initials on the place. QU, located south of the park on 18th Street, has used the facility since then. The Quincy Gems of college summer ball have also occupied the facility since 1974, the season after the professionals left. They are one of the longest-tenured members of the Prospect League, formerly the Central Illinois Collegiate League.
