Passaic County is notorious among the counties in New Jersey for not posting signs on its county roads. Some county road markers do exist, but most of them occur near state highways (such as Route 46) at which a construction project was recently completed. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has also installed signs for some 500-series roads at intersections with state highways, and there are a few other markers for 500-series roads. The 500 series is a collection of county roads specially designated as state secondary highways.
Also included here are the various state highways that run in Passaic County. These range from Interstate highways to two-lane state roads that sometimes also bear county markers.
The source for most of these route logs is the NJ Department of Transportation’s Straight Line Diagrams. These are supplemented by auxiliary maps and personal observations.
For the sake of manageability, I have listed on each route log only the following features:
By convention, stuff (town names, road names, etc.) on the left side of the road is in (parentheses), while stuff on the right side is in [square brackets]. This way, if you’re driving down the road in the direction of inventory (usually west to east or south to north), the indications line up with the way you’re facing.
