State Highways of New Jersey

NJ 185 is the beginning of an abandoned project to extend NJ 169 (now NJ 440) up the shoreline of the Upper New York Bay in Jersey City. The plan was to bypass the two-lane Caven Point Road on the east side of the New Jersey Turnpike’s Newark Bay Extension and connect with the area of Liberty State Park and Liberty Science Center, near Turnpike interchange 14B. However, the road was only completed as far as Linden Avenue, where northbound traffic must turn left and then right again on the existing Caven Point Road.
