State Highways of New Jersey

Georges Road is the old highway that US 130 follows from New Brunswick down into Mercer County. While US 130 terminates at US 1, Georges Road continues northward into New Brunswick, where it ends at Commercial Avenue. NJ 171 turns right onto Commercial Avenue, but where it once continued all the way to George Street (yes, there are too many Georges around here, probably all named for George III of England – there were a lot of loyalists in New Jersey), the current alignment of NJ 171, maintained within New Brunswick city limits by Middlesex County, cuts westward on Suydam Street and then picks up the northern end of Livingston Avenue, which is also the northern end of the old Trenton-New Brunswick Turnpike (NJ 26). There is an ancient NJ 26 shield at the corner of Livingston and Suydam.
