State Highways of New Jersey

NJ 25 was legislated in 1927 as a highway running between Jersey City and Camden. While the portion north of North Brunswick became part of US 1, the southern section became part of US 130. It used portions of the old New Brunswick-to-Cranbury turnpike (now Georges Road), and bypassed and then picked up the Bordentown-to-South Amboy turnpike. Below Bordentown, NJ 25 utilized the Burlington Turnpike and then the Westfield & Camden Turnpike.

US 130 also uses highways originally designated NJ 47 and then NJ 44 between Camden and Penns Grove. The NJ 44 stretch has been significantly improved more than once, with a bypass between Westville and Bridgeport (in Logan Township) being built in the 1950s (old NJ 44 still exists in this section). Much of the bypass was later absorbed by I-295; the roads run concurrently for nearly 10 miles.

The southern end of US 130 is US 40 in Pennsville. Shell Road connects the western end of NJ 49 at Salem with the junction of NJ 44 and NJ 48 at Penns Grove; this is now US 130 down to US 40 in Pennsville and then part of NJ 49 between there and Salem. The designation changes on the overpass that crosses US 40 (along with I-295 and the New Jersey Turnpike).
